[WARNING: If you fear spiders, don't read this]

The Victoria and Albert Museum, a decorative arts and design institution in London, will exhibit the world’s largest pieces of cloth made from spider silk—one of the rarest textiles in the world. (January 25 – June 5, 2012)

According to experts at the V&A, spider’s silk has not been woven since 1900 until just recently in 2011 by Simon Peers and Nicholas Godley. The two produced a four meter long woven textile made from the silk of more than a million female Golden Orb spiders collected in the highlands of Madagascar. Later this would be fashioned into an elaborately embroidered cape and a shawl.

Netherlands-based designer Lucas Maassen, known for his furniture and installation designs, recently employed his three sons to paint his newest furniture collection.
The process and outcome were both beautifully unique.

Due to Dutch labor laws, the boys were compensated only 1 Euro for each piece of furniture painted, and could only work three hours per week. Logistically, it’s enough to make one cringe, but for a project such as this it adds charm and value.

Adding to the aesthetic appeal were their height limitations, which left mirrors and shelving incomplete and wonderfully patchy.

While many time constraints are limiting, here they enhance aesthetics.

All of the LM&S Furniture Factory is built and painted by hand.

About a year ago Showtime commisioned Huma-Huma; a 3-man (Matt Lewkowicz, Chris Smith and Bennett Barbakow) band, company, collective and sound house that create music for films, television shows, commercials, video games, websites, toys, hotels, installations, interactive work—pretty much wherever and however music or sound is possible.

The two entities collaborated to create an eclectic audiovisual piece as part of their creative SHOrt Stories series.

The outcome was pretty solid.

Check out Peter Nitsch‘s ASCIImeo search engine. Basically, ASCIImeo is a media player which utilizes Vimeo‘s search and renders the video in ASCII code.

[Example: Beyonce's 'Single Ladies']

The player gives the user the option of switching between three different modes: Color (more complex but slow), Block (less detailed, more pixelated but fair playback rate) and simple ASCII (quick, monochrome, simple, effective).

Just another way in which the everyman can enjoy a creative aspect of code from the seemingly esoteric programming world.
